Our Story

Our Story

Rooted in nature. Built on relationships.

Headquartered in Lawrence, Kansas, Eangee Home Design’s story began more than 8,000 miles away in the Philippines.

During his travels, Clyde Godfrey discovered a distinctive handcrafted gecko lamp that reminded him of his son Chris, who kept geckos and other reptiles. Inspired by the lamp’s design and materials, Clyde saw an opportunity to introduce similarly distinctive pieces to the U.S. market.

That idea became Eangee Home Design, founded in Lawrence in 2003 by Clyde Godfrey, Chris Godfrey, and Shay Elder.

From that first lamp to today’s broader collection, the purpose remains much the same: distinctive design, natural materials, skilled craftsmanship, and meaningful partnerships.

Each piece is handcrafted by skilled artisans using traditional techniques that bring out the natural character of the materials.

Our lighting uses colorfully dyed cocoa leaves, handmade papers, and other renewable materials. Across the collection, we also work with materials such as capiz shell and other natural elements.

Design With Character

Natural variation is part of the design. Color, texture, and hand-finishing give the finished pieces the individual character that mass production cannot duplicate.

From One Lamp to a Broader Collection

Lighting remains at the heart of Eangee.

From humble beginnings, Eangee expanded to supply retail stores across the United States. Today, our products are available in all 50 states and seven countries worldwide.

Lighting remains the cornerstone of the company, with designs made from colorfully dyed cocoa leaves, handmade papers, and other renewable materials sourced from the Philippines.

The Gecko Lamp may have been the starting point, but the collection has continued to grow. Capiz wall decor is one example. The process begins with collecting and drying capiz oyster shells. The shells are carefully inlaid on a metal frame, then each piece is hand-painted to create a finished design with its own character.

Our collection continues to evolve with new ideas while staying rooted in craftsmanship, natural materials, and responsible production.

As a founding member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, Eangee is committed to high-quality products made with renewable, recyclable, and environmentally friendly materials. We also use non-toxic dyes and water-based finishes.
