As the summer heat fades and kids return to school, we start to notice that mornings are a bit cooler, dusk comes a bit sooner, and those “fall feels” start to appear. Autumn comes with comfy sweaters, hoodies, the ever-controversial pumpkin-spice, and a general desire to feel warm and cozy. One way to do this is to curl up with a good book in your reading nook. Don’t have a good reading nook? Well, we are here to help you create one! Here are four easy steps to create the perfect reading nook.

Step 1 – Find the perfect corner or space

Many homes have unique corners, spaces big enough to hold a chair and a table but not much else. Maybe it’s in a dormer window or maybe it’s just a little space that needs a good use. These are the perfect spots for a reading nook. Afterall, it’s just going to be you, your book, and your imagination (perhaps a furry friend too).

There isn’t much that’s needed to furnish this space. You’ll need a comfy chair, a small, table for a cup of tea or coffee, and some light to read by. Maybe a throw to curl up with on those cooler fall days.

Step 2 – Light your reading nook with purpose

Lighting not only is important for reading, but also for the mood you are trying to create. This is where we can help the most. Eangee Home Design offers a wide range of lamps, from floor to table to pendants, that offer a warm look with warm light. Whether it is a handmade paper lamp or one of our signature leaf lamps, our pieces showcase natural materials that will make your space feel sophisticated and inviting.

Moreover, our lamps also diffuse light in a way that will provide you the light that you need while also avoid harsh, direct light, that can feel too bright. Choosing a lamp with color can also caste a hue adding further ambiance to your space.

Step 3 – Choose the right light bulb

LED light bulbs offer a much higher level of customization when it comes to light output. To create the right environment, you’ll want a light bulb that emits warm light. Typically, you want a light bulb that is around 2700 K – a measurement of color temperature between white and yellow. This will provide a light that will feel very similar

to a traditional incandescent light bulb. These are the bulbs that we recommend for our lamps to give them the best look. Learn more about choosing the right light bulb here!

Step 4 – Add details to finish off your new reading nook

If your nook is near a window, consider adding a small live plant. This adds vibrancy, a bit of life, and hint of nature. You can do this with a vase holding seasonal flowers, or even a dried arrangement. Eangee Home Design also has a wide selection of handmade wall décor that can complement nearly any style and add dimension and texture. It’s about finding organic elements that add to the sense of calm and peace.

As the days get a bit shorter and the nights a bit longer, take advantage of the season to find your space to escape, imagine, and reflect. Fall is the season of harvest, reds and oranges, and comfort. Find that little space in your home that can offer you that little bit of respite each day. It just might make autumn your favorite season!
